Leisure

The Sultanate of Oman embraces many entertainment places that meet different tastes and different age groups. In addition to the gardens, parks and commercial complexes that are found in most of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, the development of electronic and virtual entertainment gaming places has made the entertainment industry an irreplaceable priority. Events and festivals held on an ongoing basis are an important entertainment aspect that is in line with the arts and customs of the Omani society, giving entertainment a distinctive dimension that also combines aspects of education, highlighting legacies, customs and traditions. Muscat Nights showcases various aspects of culture, cuisine, folk arts, and traditional crafts, which typically lasts for a month and takes place in various locations. Moreover, Khareef Dhofar events welcome visitors exploring the southern part of Oman during the autumn season. Oman has prioritized its history and heritage over time, achieving a perfect balance between traditional and modern arts and entertainment. This unique blend has provided an exceptional experience for tourists and catered to the needs of visitors while preserving the authentic Arab character of the country. A prime example of this is the Royal Opera House Muscat, located in Shati Al-Qurm. It offers a unique array of world-class musical performances by renowned artists and opera singers.

Markets and Shopping

Traditional markets in Oman offer a distinct shopping experience with an authentic Omani touch. These markets showcase a diverse range of Omani products, including frankincense, traditional clothing, and handmade crafts. These markets are scattered throughout various cities. For instance, Muttrah Souq is located on the waterfront in Muttrah Governorate and displays a wide array of products such as clothing, silverware, spices, frankincense, and other Omani goods. Nizwa Souq is situated near the famous Nizwa Fort, and visiting the souq on Friday mornings provides an opportunity to witness the traditional method of selling livestock known as "Al-Mnadha" or auction. A special livestock market is held every Friday morning for the sale of sheep and cows. In the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, Ibra Souq for women is held every Wednesday, allowing women to come to the city and trade textiles, jewelry, and other products. Men are not allowed to enter or sell products on this specific day. Oman also hosts several modern shopping complexes across the country. These include Muscat City Centre, Oman Avenues Mall, Al Araimi Boulevard in the capital city Muscat, as well as Nizwa Grand Mall, Sohar City Centre, and Salalah Gardens Mall. These modern shopping complexes offer the latest products and international goods, catering to various shopping preferences.
