Bait Alghasham Museum
Established in 2016 AD, the Bait Alghasham Museum came to fruition after the Ministry of Tourism oversaw the restoration of this heritage house. Dating back over two centuries, its construction originated during the era of Saeed bin Sultan al-Busaidi. Originally known as the "House of Alghasham," it was initially owned by Muhammad bin Ahmed bin Nasser al-Ghasham al-Busaidi. Subsequently, it passed into the ownership of Sayyid Ahmed bin Hilal bin Ali al-Busaidi before being acquired by Ali bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, who meticulously restored it to its original architectural style. The primary aim was to transform it into a museum that would serve cultural, social, and tourism purposes. Designed in the traditional Omani architectural style, the house features multiple rooms, a sabbah (an elevated seating area), a seblah (a central courtyard), fortified rooms, a hiding place, watchtowers, spacious courtyards, a well, and storage areas for dates. The museum's extensive collection encompasses a wide range of heritage items, including copper and pottery utensils, palm fronds, coins, jewellery, handbags, weapons, and traditional tools used in Omani crafts related to agriculture, hunting, and animal husbandry. Additionally, the museum showcases reproductions of manuscripts and books. Notably, the Bait Alghasham Museum serves as a testament to the revival and reuse of Omani clay architecture. Today, it stands as a significant tourist attraction capable of offering cultural tourism experiences, complete with amenities such as a restaurant and shops selling antiques and souvenirs. The museum also hosts a range of events, cultural programs, and various activities, making it a comprehensive and dynamic destination for visitors.
